Support for a wheelchair tennis masterclass

August 25, 2021

In the early August, the team of the Children and Youth Parasports Society participated in Vilnius Open 2021. A wheelchair tennis masterclass and also an international tournament with participants from 13 countries took place. Seven children and youngsters represented Latvia, including the charity foundation BeOpen’s old friends Tomass and Diāna.

“Everyone who participated in the masterclass and the tournament have severe movement disorders (Group I disability), but they all regularly attend our sports classes and exercise. In 2019–2020, six of our students started to train under professional sports federations, and they all are on their way to become athletes,” Natalja Novikova shares her pride.

In the wheelchair tennis masterclasses in Lithuania, our future young athletes worked with great enthusiasm, gaining both new theoretical knowledge and new playing skills. For tennis players, it was a new experience, a possibility to start in an international competition and to increase their motivation to work more and better. For many team members, this was the first tournament abroad and the first possibility to fulfil the dream about an international experience.

The team participated in Vilnius Open 2021 with the support of the charity foundation BeOpen within the project “Let’s help fulfil the dreams of special children”.
